Spotlighting at night on Lord Howe Island provided great views of these birds in their hundreds. They waddle clumsily, they are built for flying and swimming and are vulnerable on land.

I am pleased that the locals take conservation so seriously on Lord Howe Island, with very few cars and a twenty five km per hour speed limit to ensure they do not get run over.
